Australian Sprinter & Olympic, World and Commonwealth Medalist – Sydney
John Steffensen is one of the country’s most recognisable track and field athletes. Having won more international medals than any other Australian male sprinter in the country, John is a force to be reckoned with.
Born and raised in Perth, WA, John has always had a passion for sport, with his parents signing him up for Little Athletics when he was only 7 years old, to allow him to get rid of all his excess energy. This sparked John’s love for all sport, particularly track and field.
As a former track and field Olympian, and World and Commonwealth Medalist, John has an impressive list of achievements, taking home two gold medals in the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, and a bronze medal at the 2009 Berlin World Championships, all for the 4x400m relay and 400m run.
Veering off the running track and onto the racecourse, John has turned his sights to Motor Racing. John made his debut into the racing world at Sandown in 2017, driving a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge series with Zagame Motorsport. After finishing the championship in third place, John quickly moved into the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia in 2018 driving in the Porsche Centre Melbourne team.
Since retiring from the track in 2014, John has added many notches to his belt, working with young Australian athletic talent and developing his high-performance coaching company, Just Sprint.
As well as coaching and mentoring aspiring athletes, John lets his charisma shine through his regular co-hosting spot on Nine’s Wide World of Sport as well as his work as a reporter for cycling Tour Down Under in Adelaide. John does not shy away from the camera, appearing on various reality TV shows, including SAS Australia and as runner-up on Celebrity Apprentice Australia in 2013.
Outside of athletics, John has a multitude of interests ranging from fashion and wellbeing to lifestyle and beauty, and health and nutrition. John is also the owner of organic soap brand, Bondi Soap.
Family is also something John holds very close to his heart, with his beautiful wife Sarah, and his two adorable kids always cheering him on from the sideline.
